We had to make a very hard, difficult decision last week. We have had our cute Oreo for 6 months now and he has become a member of our family. The kids have grown very attached to him. But we had a couple of incidences that we just could not live with. Oreo we discovered had a tendency to feel possessive of bones that he chewed on from time to time. And a couple of times he nipped at kids and actually got them if they were trying to pet him when he had a bone that he really liked. This made us very sad because he was great with kids 99% of the time, but that 1% we just were not willing to live with anymore.
We worked hard to find Oreo the perfect home and I think we succeeded. We found a great couple looking for a dog just like Oreo. We connected and set a time for them to come by last Monday evening to meet him. I told the kids Monday after school that we had to re-home him and they were all just devastated. It was so sad and hard to see them go through that. We decorated for the fall and watched a movie to distract before dinner, and then the couple came over and just fell in love with Oreo. By 8:00 that night he was gone. We all sat and cried together and then we had big bowls of ice cream.
Each day seems to be a little bit easier for the kids. They still talk about him and say how much they miss him. And I find pictures that they have drawn of him and them being sad around the house since he has gone. I hope that one day we can get another dog that is the perfect fit for us and one that I can trust 100% around my little ones.
And here we are with Oreo right before he drove away with his new family. Very sad!
So goodbye Oreo! Thanks for being such a cute puppy and spending 6 months with us.

6 months was all we lasted with our dog too! She was also possessive of food and nipped at the kids a time or two. The worst thing, was that she stopped caring about us and was just always on the lookout for food. Just crazy. I hear labs or golden retrievers are great dogs. I probably won't cave again, even though Dave says I will...
